Marko has practiced martial arts since 1996, starting in Kuusamo under his instructor Kimmo Nikkonen in 1997. After moving to Oulu in 2000, he co-founded the Oulu Karate-Do-Shotokai club together with Jani and Jari Ronkainen, where he trained and instructed until 2018.
In addition to Shoto Budo and Shotokai Karate, Marko regularly practices three different styles of karate, ju-jitsu and kickboxing.
Kempele Shoto Budo ry was founded by Marko in December 2015, with the club's regular activities beginning at the start of 2016. Since 2020 he has supported the instructors of Raahe Shoto Budo ry and traveled regularly to teach in Raahe. Also since 2020, Marko has served as the Chairperson of Shoto Budo Finland ry and as member of the technical group as well as being a board member of Finnish Karate-do-Shotokai ry from 2006-2023
